HAANEN: Remigius Adrianus van Haanen was Dutch landscape painter born in the Netherlands in 1812 and died in 1894. He was a pupil of his father, Casparus Haanen. During his studies he lived in Amsterdam and Frankfurt am Main, and in Vienna from 1815 where he changed his first name to Remy (also spelled Remi) and became known for paintings of Austrian landscapes. In 1850 travelled into Russia where he became known for his winter landscape paintings. His sisters Adriana-Johanna (1814-1895), Elisabeth Alida (1809-1845), and his brother George Giles (1807-1879/81) were also painters trained by their father.

VELYN: Philippus (Philipp) Velyn (Velijn) (1787-1836) was a Dutch etcher and engraver of portraits and landscapes. Active in Amsterdam, Leiden and Paris.

CONDITION: Image in excellent condition. One-half inch of top and bottom margins toned.
