BACKGROUND: Countries at war create posters that would demonize opponents; others would encourage young men to volunteer for battle. Still other posters were to cultivate a sense of national pride; this is one of those. This is a poster showing a flag with three vertical blue stripes on a white ground with a wide red border. A Liberty Bond was a war bond that was sold in the United States to support the allied cause in World War I. On April, 1918 the Third Liberty Loan offered $3 billion in bonds at 4.5 percent interest.
