Description

BACKGROUND: The Automobile Blue Book was an American series of road guides for motoring travelers in the United States and Canada published between 1901 and 1929. It was best known for its point-to-point road directions at a time when numbered routes generally did not exist. Wisconsin became the first state to number its highways in 1918.ย  This emphasis on providing separate routes for each city connection led to volumes often containing more than 800 pages to describe the hundreds of routes contained within. Front cover embossed in gold with title: Automobile Blue Book Vol I (Remainder of the title rubbed out from use.) 5โ€w x 9โ€h. 802 pages. Illustrated throughout with 16 maps and advertising. This is not the automobile price book currently in use in America. Instead, it is a tour book. Also, this is not a reproduction.

MAP: At the back is a fold-out General Index Map of Automobile Routes in Volume One, separated along fold lines into three pieces. . This index map refers the reader to the corresponding route number in the book.

CONDITION: Well used, but nearly 100 YEARS OLD. Worn. Lightly toned.ย  Front hinge broken. Missing title page.ย  Fair condition.
